WVU.Encrypted WVU.Encrypted icon Configuration:
Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP Home Edition, you must have Service Pack 2 installed. If you do not have service pack 2 installed, you can download it from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

You can access the WVU.Encrypted wireless network with any Wi-Fi client device which supports WPA and AES, by following the steps below. WVU recommends but does not require Cisco-branded or CCXv2 Cisco-compatible client adapters.

Configure Windows XP to Connect to WVU.Encrypted

  1. Make sure your MasterID account is active. You must have an active MasterID to use the University wireless networks.

If you are already using your MasterID account to log into the Parking website, WVU Central, or other MasterID applications, then your wireless access is already active. Proceed to step 2.

If you need to activate your account, or if you are not certain if your account is active, visit http://adact.wvu-ad.wvu.edu/ and submit your information there.

Once your account is activated, an email with your login name and a randomized password will be sent to your GroupWise or MIX email address within a few minutes. When you receive this email, visit http://masterreset.wvu.edu within 72 hours and update your account with a new password you choose. Your wireless account is not active until you update your password.

  2. Preconfiguring your client: Overview
Specific, step-by-step configuration instructions for the standard Windows XP client are included in the next step; however, the basic steps are the same for all clients.
    • enable DHCP or automatic IP addresses for your wireless adapter.
    • add WVU.Encrypted to your list of wireless networks (SSIDs).
    • select WPA2 Enterprise authentication (or WPA Enterprise if WPA2 is not listed) and AES encryption
    • enable 802.1x (EAP) and select PEAP or EAP-MSCHAPv2 as the EAP type.
    • enable validation of server certificates.
    • disable both 'authenticate as guest' and 'authenticate as computer', if applicable.
    • disable automatic use of Windows logon info, if applicable
