SSH File Transfer Protocol or SFTP is a network protocol that provides file transfer and manipulation functionality over any reliable data stream. It is typically used with the SSH-2 protocol to provide secure file transfer.
Web hosting is space provided on a server for information presented on a website. At WVU there are different services for different types of sites.
Departments, official university projects and student organizations should contact the university Web Services unit for any assitance regarding their websites and hosting.
Online Courses are developed using the Vista Online Courese delivery system. If you are developing an online course, you can contact our Information Technology Resource Center (ITRC) for assistance.
Personal Web Hosting: The Office of Information Technology offers personal web hosting for faculty, staff and students on its community.wvu.edu web server.
To sign up for web hosting, you will need to activate your Central ID (if it isn;t already active) and make sure you have access to a program that allows you to use SSH/SFTP (or secure FTP).
