About Student Systems Management
The Student Systems Management (SSM) Group operates under a cooperative arrangement between OIT and Student Affairs. SSM is staffed by personnel from both departments and is responsible for providing support for student information systems like STAR - which houses student registration, admissions, records, housing and financial aid - operating in a UNIX, Oracle-based environment.
SSM is also responsible for the following:
- Provides functional and technical applications support for the Offices of Student Affairs and Student Accounts
- Develops and maintains specifications and other functional/technical documentation
- Develops and maintains student census files for HEPC
- Coordinates the implementation of new systems and functionality as well as testing fixes and upgrades to current systems
- Provides data to other systems/departments throughout the University
- Processes critical applications for Student Affairs (tape loads, grades, interfaces to other systems
- Maintains STAR interfaces to other University systems such as the MIX
- Maintains data integrity through edit processing
- Maintains STAR security
- Trains users on STAR
Mission
To provide technological development, maintenance and support of the University’s student information systems, all systems they are integrated with, and reporting requirements while providing timely, reliable, excellent service to the students, faculty and staff
Goals
- Provide a reliable, maximum up-time environment to the University community
- Provide a secure data environment while permitting access to data as required without impeding efficiencies and productivity
- Maintain a state-of-the-art environment without jeopardizing system integrity
- Support a wide variety of system interfaces to facilitate the needs of individual administrative departments and academic departments
- Support University, state and federal reporting needs as required
- Evaluate, design, develop, and implement projects that assist the University to better serve our students, faculty, and staff
