Empowering the university community through information technology (IT) enables students, faculty, and staff to open gateways to a vast array of information and knowledge. This is accomplished by providing each individual a definitive tool-set of resources including hardware, software, training, and support. Use of this tool-set allows the self-directed acquisition of the necessary skills and abilities to be successful. This empowerment of the University community will not take place without a roadmap that tells us where we need to go and what we need to achieve. A key component is the evaluation, formation, and advancement of a strategic plan for technology.
The following plan describes a high-level comprehensive technology strategy that enhances the educational environment and business operations of West Virginia University. At its most basic level, it is a description of the tool-set mentioned above. It is, by design, succinct and readable. The tactical plans and other information that supplies the detail surrounding these strategic directions is referenced.
Since technology changes on a regular basis, so must this roadmap. Hence, per force, this is a "living" document that will be updated on a periodic basis. This plan is a blueprint for tomorrow that sets forth WVU's information technology vision, strategic directions, and action plans for achieving the empowerment of the University community through information technology.
