OIT Vision, Mission and Goals

Vision

The vision for Information Technology at West Virginia University is to empower the University community through information technology, to enrich the academic experience for students, and to strengthen the ability of faculty and staff to educate, conduct research, and provide public service throughout West Virginia and beyond.

Mission

Provide efficient and effective University-wide information technology services and support to facilitate accomplishment of the University mission of teaching, research, service and technology. Coordinate, advocate, and promote Morgantown-based and regional campus computing, telecommunications, and video technology resources and capabilities necessary to achieve institutional goals in support of the University mission.

Strategic Goals

  • Adopt the philosophy of strategic planning as the methodology for management of information technology and advocate this philosophy University-wide.
  • Continue development and implementation of the Information Technology Strategic Plan
  • Promote information technology as a University strategy, with a commitment to a level of recurring, University-wide funding, consistent with comparable SREB institutions.
  • Create and sustain a technologically rich University environment that includes necessary resources, capabilities, standards, policies and procedures, and encourage infusion of new technology into that environment.
  • Promote and advocate University-wide implementation of appropriate new computing, telecommunications, and video technologies as tools for more efficient and effective accomplishment of the University mission.
  • Develop the organization and staffing necessary to meet requirements of the on-going strategic plan, consistent with comparable SREB institutions, and acquire necessary funding to implement this organizational structure.
  • Provide technology support to the University community by anticipating and meeting their needs, and by fostering open two-way communications.
  • Take care of our staff by providing challenging and meaningful work; proper resources and professional tools; a good work environment; appropriate recognition and compensation; and clear, frequent and honest communication.
  • Increase integration of regional campuses into University-wide plans and programs by continuing to take advantage of technological advances to lessen the effect of the physical distance between the campuses.
