WARNING: Fake MIX Message asks to Confirm Your Email Identity

OIT has been informed of a phishing scam targeting MIX users.  If you receive an email with a subject line of or similar to ‘Confirm Your Email Identity,’ delete the message. It is a phishing scheme intended to acquire your MIX username and password.

The text of the phishing email may be simliar to the following:

mix.wvu.edu webmail Users Account Owner,

This message is from WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY Internet
Technical Support to all the mix.wvu.edu account Users.On
Thursday , August 21sT 2008.

We are currently upgrading our data base and e‑mail
account center. We are deleting all
unused.(webmail.mix.wvu.edu) account to create more space
for new accounts.

All webmail Mailhub systems will undergo general mailbox
scheduled maintenance,to prevent your account from closing
you will have to updateit below so that we will know that
it’s  presently in used

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL IDENTITY BELOW
Email Username :…………….
EMAIL Password :…………….

Warning!!! Any account owner that refuses to update his or
her account within Seven days of receiving this warning
will lose his or her account permanently. Final
Notification, Please Protect Your eMAIL From Being Closed.
