A series of phishing attacks purporting to be from the Internal Revenue Service have been reported to Information Security Services by WVU users. While the exact language varies, all of the e-mails require the user to click on a link to provide their personal information to secure their federal tax “e-Refund.” The links take the user to official looking forms hosted on web servers in Denmark, Russia, and other foreign countries.
Defend Your Data! Do not fall for these phishing attacks by providing your birth date and Social Security number to identity thieves. Forward these e-mails as an attachment to defendyourdata@mail.wvu.edu and then delete them from your inbox.

On Wednesday, May 15 during the normal GroupWise maintenance period (7:00 p.m. to midnight), a 25 megabyte per message size limit will be implemented on the GroupWise system. The per message limit is the total size of attachments and message content.
The Office of Information Technology understands that sharing large files with WVU and non-WVU colleagues is important. OIT provides several services to share large files. To learn more about these services, go to http://oit.wvu.edu/fileshare.
What will happen to existing messages over 25 megabytes? You will be able to open these messages, but will not be able to send them to anyone else. You will find information on how to locate and save large messages in your GroupWise mailbox at http://oit.wvu.edu/groupwise/faq/manage/largemessages/.

The Office of Information Technology understands that sharing large files via email with both WVU and non-WVU colleagues is important. OIT provides several services to help you accomplish this goal. You can learn more about these services at http://oit.wvu.edu/fileshare .
Filelocker is a new OIT service for sending and receiving files that are too large for email. It replaces the existing BigFiles system on April 22. Filelocker has a user-friendly interface and provides a secure mechanism to share files with both internal (WVU) and external colleagues. Visit http://oit.wvu.edu/filelocker for more information and to login to the system.
For anyone who would like to discuss file sharing needs and options, OIT will conduct two open File Sharing Consulting times: April 17, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Room G14 Evansdale Library and April 25, 10:00 a.m. – noon in Room 5104 at One Waterfront Place.
OIT plans to replace the GroupWise email system for faculty and staff later this calendar year with Microsoft Office 365. As a part of this change, some adjustments must be made to existing systems. On May 15, a 25 megabyte per message limit will be implemented on the GroupWise system. The per message limit is the total size of attachments and message content.
What will happen to existing messages over 25 megabytes? You will be able to open these messages, but will not be able to send them to anyone else. Additional information on how to locate and save large messages in your GroupWise mailbox at the following URL: http://oit.wvu.edu/groupwise/faq/manage/largemessages/
Please go to http://oit.wvu.edu/office365/ for more information about the Office 365 project.

The next time you change your password you will be prompted to agree to the Statement of Security Responsibility and have the opportunity to extend your password expiration to 180 days if you chose to complete a short security quiz.
Those who must meet HIPAA compliance are not eligible for the 180-day password expiration and will not receive a prompt to complete the security quiz. Password expiration for these individuals will remain at 90 days.

The Office of Information Technology will soon allow users to extend their MyID password expiration from 90 to 180 days, starting the week of 2013 Spring Break, March 25 – 29.
Changing your password during or just after Spring Break will allow users to stay active through the summer and well into the Fall semester.
Users who wish to extend their password expiration to 180 days will need to complete a short yearly security quiz on topics relevant to protecting personal information and data. Upon successfully answering at least four of the five questions, the password expiration will be set to 180 days. The quiz may be taken as many times as needed to pass, or individuals can opt out. If a user opts out, the password expiration remains set to 90 days.
Those who must meet HIPAA compliance are not eligible for the 180-day password expiration and they will not receive the prompts to complete the security quiz. Password expiration for these individuals will remain 90 days.
An annual Security Responsibility Statement will also be required of all users. Individuals accessing a MyID account will need to accept the responsibility statement. Acceptance of the statement affirms the user understands the need to protect their WVU credentials and any data for which they are responsible. Please note that by selecting Cancel, a user will exit the MyID account activation or password change process and all accounts will be disabled.
For additional information, please go to https://myid.wvu.edu or contact the OIT Service Desk at 304-293-4444 or OITHelp@mail.wvu.edu.
