Paid Printing FAQ
- Why am I paying for printing when I already pay technology fee?
Answer: Your technology fee has never paid for printing consumables.
- Where can I print for free?
Answer: Most "public" labs on campus have converted to the paid printing system. Some departmental labs used by specific programs still provide free printing when you are enrolled in class.
- Do other schools make students pay to print?
Answer: Yes. In fact, other schools of similar size have made students pay to print for years. WVU has made every effort to keep your per page cost as low as possible. In fact, in most cases the fee you pay does not completely cover the cost associated with printing.
- Are there advantages to this system?
Answer: Yes. Most notably color printing. Many units now have the opportunity to provide color output for their patrons. Otherwise, without the cost recovery in place color printing would be too expensive.
- My print job had errors or didn't finish completely. What should I do?
You should notify the person(s) in charge of the lab. If you experience problems with the paid printing system the lab staff should be able to help you resolve them.
- I added money to my Mountaineer Card but now it's not there?
This might happen if you added "laundry money" instead of adding money to your Mounty Bounty account. To avoid this problem, add money for printing in the computer lab or libraries where the Value Add stations are installed. This also might happen if there is a problem with your card or account. Contact the Mountaineer Card office for help.
- How do I use the system?
Answer: The kiosk will read your WVU ID card. It requires you to activate your Mounty Bounty (.pdf) account by placing funds on the card. For detailed instructions read the Paid Printing Guidelines (.pdf) developed by the Office of Academic Computing or ask the lab staff for assistance.
- When will Paid Printing begin?
Answer: The system will go "live" on October 1, 2001. Until then you are required to use your WVU ID card but no real money is transferred. We have provided this window of opportunity for you to activate your account and to allow time for the Value-Add stations to be installed. Additionally, Carolyn from the Mountaineer Card office says, "They need to visit the Office of Student accounts in Stewart Hall or the Cashier's office at G-114 Bennett Tower to put funds on their account. Or funds may also be added via telephone with VISA, MasterCard or Discover by calling 293-4406 or 293-3621. The other option is mailing a check to Mountaineer Card Debit, P.O. Box 6430, Morgantown, WV 26506-6430. The check should include the student's name, student number and that it is for Mountie Bounty. They do not need to come to our office to establish an account."
Damaged Cards
Unlike the card swipe readers, the add-value stations require that the entire card be inserted into the machine. This means that if the card is damaged or has stickers it will get stuck in the machine.
Do NOT insert cards that are:
- Split
- Bent
- Broken
- Taped
- Glued
- Stickered
- Or otherwise damaged
If your damaged card gets stuck in the machine, you will be charged for a new card and may be charged a service fee for having a technician called to remove the card. If you need to put funds on a card immediately, you may purchase a card from this machine for $1.00 and place funds on it.
