AMX Training Opportunity for WVU Staff on March 25 & 26

After much research and product testing, WVU’s Classroom Technology unit (CTec) believes the AMX Enova DVX has the potential to be the cornerstone of their future classroom installations. It has the combination of capabilities to be the most beneficial for customers and support staff, plus its programming is the same as current AMX (control system used in most CTec classrooms) products. The DVX is an ‘all in one box’ solution that combines control, video switching & scaling, audio routing & amplification, and full HD capabilities & compliance with upgrade allowances for future standards. With everything in one box, the system can be easily monitored and modified through one interface. We have been pilot testing the first DVX at WVU in Clark Hall 101 since the start of the Fall 2012 semester.

Trainer Sean Cameron from AMX will hold a demonstration & training session at CTec’s new offices in Hodges Hall. His primary focus will be on the Enova DVX, but much of the information is applicable to AMX’s other products. I encourage all interested WVU staff to RSVP and attend. With enough participation from WVU, we may be able to have AMX back again next year to address additional topics, so please feel free to forward this on to your peers.

Schedule:

Monday, March 25th’s session begins at 1pm and runs until 4:30pm in Hodges Hall room 221.

Sean will provide a quick overview of AMX products, then focus on the Enova DVX products, technology, and capabilities. Additional attention will be given to touch panels, remote management systems, and the Rapid Project Maker software.

Tuesday, March 26th’s all day session starts at 8:30am in Hodges Hall 221.

The morning session will focus on DVX installation, programming, and remote configuration. The afternoon session will begin by 1pm and will focus more on advanced programming and troubleshooting.

Any WVU staff person is welcome to attend this free event. Please RSVP by contacting CTEC at your next availability.

Call 304-293-CTEC or email CTEC@mail.wvu.edu for more information.

Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 released, but not always compatible with WVU systems

Republished from MOUNTAINEER E-News on January 11, 2013

WVU students, faculty, and staff who received computers as gifts over the holidays and were introduced to the newest version of Microsoft Windows may be asking when the University will move to Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10. WVU IT staff will continue ongoing testing of these new releases with key University systems and will keep the community informed as the various application vendors certify their products for Windows 8 compatibility.

“We know Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 are upon us, but many of our web-based applications such as eCampus, MyAccess, MAP, and STAR are not certified for Windows 8 compatibility and may not be fully compatible with the recent releases,” says Cara Pietrowski, director of OIT client services.

The new system features touch screen capabilities and a markedly different interface that runs on tablets as well as PCs. While some software functionality may work using Windows 8 or the newest web browser, Internet Explorer 10, we recommend users install Firefox version 17 until vendors certify their systems for Windows 8 compatibility.

Brice Knotts, director of student system management says, “Based on our initial testing, Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 are compatible with STAR. There may be some incompatibilities that our testing has not uncovered, but we have successfully used common features and functions with Internet Explorer 10. If individuals experience compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 10, we recommend trying Firefox version 17.”

Amy Kuhn, director of OIT academic and instructional technology, said that WVU eCampus is researching compatibility with Windows 8 and will post updates to ecampus.wvu.edu. Currently, eCampus is certified with Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8. Initial testing shows that Internet Explorer 10 with special configuration (found at ecampus.wvu.edu) can be used with eCampus.

If you have any questions, contact the OIT Service Desk at 304-293-4444, or email oithelp@mail.wvu.edu for help.
